Roaming Local wants to offer readers and consumers information that is interesting, relevant and local. Not just 'Boston', but 'just around the corner, Boston'. We have focused on making sure that you can get to our website from almost anywhere. It looks good on your PC or Mac. It looks good on your cool new tablet. It looks a little different, but still complete and easy to use on your smartphone. And you didn't need to download an app to use it.
Geolocation. Geo-what?! That's the GPS in your phone, and the clever tech in your desktop browser that guesses your location just based on your Internet connection. You don't have to use it to benefit from the site (you can just tell us you are interested in Central Square for example), but if you do it will really help to pinpoint the articles and listings closest to you. We don't record your location or tell anybody about it. All geolocation requests are anonymous, so your little trip into town isn't going to be frowned upon by neighbors, friends or 'big brother'.
Roaming Local publishes only original content, and like everything we do we give every article a geographical location. So you can see news and information that relevant to where you are now, where you live or where you work. Go across the river this afternoon and you might get a whole set of different information, or you may just choose to see the latest stuff from all across the city.
We have a strict editorial policy: we don't allow blatant product pitches or offensive articles; we do want interesting and opinionated writing that generates discussion, gets readers involved, and works hard not to be just more bland website blah, blah, blah.
We publish under four categories currently: Eat & Drink, Get Outdoors, Live Sports and Work Hard.
This allows us the flexibility to present readers with information about food, drink, dining out, restaurants, pubs, clubs, football, baseball, hockey, climbing, hiking, mountain biking, culture, the environment, work, career building, education, making money, and much more.
Business listings are central to Roaming Local. They provide a core of information that is relevant to consumers. Not always exciting reading, of course, but they do provide all of us with the information we need to enjoy entertainment, get better deals shopping and find new services in our local area.
Every listing is tied to a geographical location. This allows us to present listings alongside our other articles when website users are looking for information nearest to their current location or another part of town. This gives readers more context in what they see on the site, helping them explore their city from all angles. We also allow users to stumble across listings and information in physical locations by scanning a QR Code. Get the information about the event, business or article in that location, then look for other content local to it.
Business listings start off free, and businesses can choose to pay a small fee to enhance the information, add special offer coupons, highlight products and services, etc.
Even with free listings, we aim for accuracy, so will research any request for a change to information on our website. Of course, we can't claim any responsibility for errors or omissions.
Roaming Local is based in Quincy, MA and is run by a small core team that supports experts and contributors in our chosen categories to publish the information local people want. Roaming Local, which is the roaminglocal.com web properties, is owned and run by Consected LLC.
